We are pleased to introduce
"Building Blocks of Community-based Geriatric Mental Health Research", a project focusing on the challenges of conducting research among community-residing older adults with mental illness. The project is led by leaders in geriatric mental health services research and integrates contributions from students, investigators, and community participants.
CommunityGMHResearch.org features interactive presentations, educational modules, and links to articles and other peer-reviewed resources that focus on the challenges of conducting research among community-residing older adults with mental illness. This Web site is designed to act as a virtual mentor to further evidence-based geriatric mental health practices by educating and supporting the careers of junior investigators, clinicians, graduate fellows, and undergraduate students who have an interest in geriatric mental health implementation research.
We hope this Web site will provide you with the building blocks for conducting community-based geriatric mental health research. We use a multi-method approach to achieve this goal including online webinars, posted research materials and measures, pertinent journal articles, and tips for successful grant writing. We also highlight current community models of care in geriatric mental health research as prototypes for study.

The goals of this project are to:
- Equip new investigators with skills and materials needed to develop effective and sustainable community-based strategies for improving access and quality of care for older adults with mental illness
- Train new investigators to critically evaluate current research in order to improve the methodology needed for geriatric mental health services and interventions
- Support and train investigators to independently develop innovative intervention strategies for community-residing older adults with mental illness using state-of-the-art methodology and measures
Who Should Participate:
This project is targeted toward early-career investigators who are interested in pursuing a career in geriatric mental health interventions and services research. These include people with pre- and post-doctoral training in geriatric psychiatry, geriatric psychology, gerontological social work, mental health services research, and other healthcare professionals who are seeking to develop methodologies for implementing or disseminating research findings into real-world community settings.
